Calaveras Arts Music in the Parks Presents The Lemon Hammer

Jul 24, 2014 06:46AM ● By Brenna Mc Gowan

The Calaveras Arts Council is pleased to bring to the foothills and MIP the original music of The Lemon Hammer.   The Mountain Ranch Community Park is the place to hear this Berkeley based four-some.  Music starts at 6:30 pm, but get there early and stake your ground for these fine musicians.

What do you get when you mix sweet and sour mash with four former Calvin Klein models?  You get The Lemon Hammer.

The Lemon Hammer spins stories that span beverage metaphor, “rind bitterness to a floral bloom”.  It is sweet and ripe.  Their rhythms, searing leads, and soul stirring delivery blend together a sound somewhere between folk, blues, soul, pop, with the swank of original songs.

Alexis Harte is a critically acclaimed singer-songwriter and guitarist.  With The Lemon Hammer his delicious yet gritty electric guitar lines directly from his fingers.  Fergus Lenehan provides the hammer in the 35 Hertz range, with his four and five string basses.  Damon Moodie both attaches and caresses the microphone.  He writes songs, and claws out rhythm on acoustic guitar.  Aaron Brinkerhoff holds it all down on the stand-up cocktail drum kit while somehow walling on the harmonica singing the high part.  The complete sound of The Lemon Hammer will have you dancing and swaying for 90 minutes.

Bring your low back chair, picnic dinner and enjoy the friendly entertainment and environment of Mountain Ranch.  If you don’t feel like packing your own meal, the Mountain Ranch Youth Alliance will have “Winner, Winner Chicken Dinner” on hand at affordable prices.  Both Children’s Plate and Adult Plates are available, $5 and $10, respectively.

To get to Mountain Ranch Community Park, from San Andreas, take Mountain Ranch Road East into Mountain Ranch.  The Park is on the left at Whiskey Slide Road.

The next Music in the Parks concert is August 6 at the San Andreas’s Turner Park.  Cowboy minstrel Pip Gillette will be performing.  For a downloadable schedule of Music in the Parks and other events presented by the Calaveras Arts Council, go to calaverasarts.org or call (209) 754-1774
