Nick Bennett

Oak Ridge High School

Tell us about yourself.
I enjoy being involved with non-profit organizations. When I was a sophomore, I created my first charity event, Gunning for the Cure, to benefit Help MitoKids. It was a paintball event that raised approximately $12,000 for the organization.

What accomplishment are you most proud of and why?
I’m most proud of my recent acceptance into Loyola Marymount University in southern California. When I toured the college during my junior year, I immediately fell in love and it’s been my “dream school” ever since.

What are your school interests, involvements and hobbies?
At school, I’m mostly involved with ASB Leadership. We are responsible for coordinating many school events including dances, rallies, blood drives and unity week. I have been part of this class throughout my high school career and it’s led to many lasting friendships.

What’s one thing that not many people know about you?
I love the TV show Doctor Who. Everyone has a little guilty pleasure, and mine just happens to be watching that show over and over. I recently got my girlfriend hooked on the show, too, so now I have someone who is willing to listen to my ramblings about it!

What are your plans after graduation?
I plan to travel over the summer with my family and friends before heading to Southern California to pursue a degree in business management at Loyola Marymount.

Who is your role model?
Winston Churchill. During the war he was an inspiration to millions of people when they needed someone to look to for guidance. Call it cheesy, but I always want to be that person my friends can come talk to in their times of need.

Describe your career aspirations.
Like many of my friends, my career aspirations are still up in the air. My current thought is to work in the IT consulting field. Someday, I’d like to open my own firm in southern California and work with other like-minded people whom I hope to meet in college.

If you could travel anywhere, where would you go?
I would travel to the Maldive Islands. Teenagers and adults alike tend to get caught up in the online world. Going somewhere like the Maldives would be a great way to unplug and simply enjoy a little relaxation.
