I went to Kona Coffee Café in the late, weaning hours one recent Saturday morning, and I must say, its casual, relaxing setting fused together seamlessly with the rest of my lazy day sans work. I was thinking out loud as I pondered the menu, and as I read the special, a Chicken Pesto Pastrami Sandwich, the cashier’s eyes widened convincing me to order it—along with a Cappuccino. As I waited, I admired the intricately detailed Hawaiian murals that spanned every inch of the wall space. From surfer vans to traditional Polynesian sculptures, Hawai’i is well represented. My food arrived in no time, and I was pleased to find the pastrami was tender and succulent, while the chicken had been cooked perfectly moist. Pesto was the perfect spread to accent the meat’s flavors, while melted mozzarella and tomatoes added even more gusto. As I sipped my creamy, foam-topped cappuccino, I thought, “What a nice way to cap off a Saturday morning.” I’ll definitely be back, not only to try more menu items, but for the relaxing Hawaiian atmosphere as well.
