Tucked away near Mel’s Diner on Folsom Boulevard, Willow Café & Sweetery offers dishes to please every palate in a quaint and upscale atmosphere.
In addition to their breakfast and lunch selections featuring organic fish, poultry and beef, the café also boasts hearty vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free items. After wandering in during my lunch break, I was greeted by the friendliest of staff that were all-too-kind in helping me decide what to order. Although their sandwiches looked delicious, I settled on the Vegetable Pho – the chef’s take on the classic Vietnamese rice noodle soup (chicken and tofu options are also available). The broth was exceptionally flavorful, brimming with a light meaty flavor and various spices – made even better by my own addition of scallions, coriander and a hefty squirt of Sriracha. While I noshed, I also sipped on their homemade cherry-vanilla soda (made fresh with simmered cherry juice and pure vanilla extract). After I was sufficiently stuffed, I managed to squeeze in a few bites of their rich salty-sweet blondie – easily one of the best I’ve ever had. Their unique assortment of baked goods and café menu, along with the chef’s dedication to using free-range and organic meats and produce will have me back for many more meals!
