Goings on in the Folsom & El Dorado Hills areas

The Folsom and El Dorado Hills areas have been quite busy in the past few months!

The works of talented Folsom Lake College student artists will be featured through May 13 at the Bank of America Gallery located in Three Stages at Folsom Lake College. This exhibition features a diverse range of works capturing the personal journey of the artist. The Gallery is open to the public every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and one hour before and during intermission of each scheduled performance at Three Stages.

A big congratulations goes to Oak Ridge High School student Corbin Gomez who took first place in California’s Poetry Out Loud contest this past March. He now goes on to represent California in the Poetry Out Loud National Finals on May 13-15 in Washington D.C. The winner will get a $20,000 cash prize! We wish Corbin all the best!.

Did you know the upscale women’s clothing consignment boutique Belle Mode has donated more than 200,000 pieces of clothing to Snowline Hospice, American Cancer Society and the Twin Lakes Food Bank in Folsom? Items that don’t sell are donated to these local charities. Visit the store at 1012 East Bidwell Street in Folsom.

Applications are now available for local non-profit and charitable organizations to apply for a 2012 financial grant from Soroptimist International of Cameron Park and El Dorado Hills. This annual grant program offers direct support for specific projects. To request an application, email [email protected]; the deadline for completed applications to be received is May 15.

UCP of Sacramento and Northern California will hold its 19th Annual Humanitarian of the Year Award Dinner from 6-9 p.m. on May 10 at the Sheraton Grand Hotel Sacramento. The group, which empowers children and adults with developmental disabilities, will honor Chevo Ramirez, regional vice president of Wells Fargo Foundation for the Northern and Central California Region. The 2012 El Dorado County Fair is coming! All livestock and non-livestock entry guides are now available online. Livestock entry forms are due by 4 p.m. on May 5; most other entry forms are due by 4 p.m. on May 11. For more information, visit eldoradocountyfair.org.

From September 2-12, you could be cruising down the Volga River and exploring the historic cities of Moscow and St. Petersburg with the El Dorado Hills Chamber of Commerce. The El Dorado Hills Chamber of Commerce is proud to offer scholarships to graduating seniors from Ponderosa and Oak Ridge High Schools who plan to continue their education by attending a university, college or vocational school. Interested students (who will graduate next year) can pick up an application at the career centers of both high schools, in the Chamber office, or online; the deadline is early April 2013.
