Touted as “the place” for passionate foodies with a propensity for all things Italian,

”The Place in Roseville offers their own take on hearty Italian comfort food – doing it right with updated classics like wood-fired Bolognese pizza, tuna puttanesca paninis, house-made raviolis and oven-baked gnocchi. Located on the ever-so-quaint Vernon Street in downtown Roseville, the charming restaurant and friendly staff warmly welcomed me and my date and led us to our seats at a cozy table by the window.

The menu was brimming with delicious Italian fare like pan-seared polenta, pizza margherita, and braciola, but we settled on The Big Cheese appetizer (fresh mozzarella, breaded and fried), along with an entrée for each of us. My boyfriend was all-too-quick to choose the special, Pesto Pasta, before I finally decided on chicken marsala.

While waiting for our entrées, we nibbled on the delicately crisp and smooth hunks of mozzarella, took in the views of downtown Roseville, and listened to the live piano music softly streaming in through the other end of the restaurant. Soon enough, I was enjoying a piping-hot plate of delicately sweet chicken marsala over buttery linguine, and sipping Chianti. My boyfriend’s velvety pasta was just as delicious – rich, creamy and studded with salty bites of prosciutto that rounded out every bite.

We finished off the meal with a slice of the coffee-soaked tiramisu, the perfect end to an Italian meal. For those with smaller appetites, The Place also offers other sweet treats like assorted biscotti, sfogliatelle (small ricotta-filled pastries) and made-to-order cannolis.

The perfect restaurant for a romantic date or a casual family dinner, The Place also offers a full bar and an extensive list of great wines and refreshingly original cocktails. Note: The Place is closed Mondays and Tuesdays.
