Dinner at the Waterfall Buffet at Red Hawk Casino is a feast for the eyes and the appetite.

You will find a never-ending array of salads and appetizers, dozens of dishes from worldly cuisines, a superb carving station and, in the middle of it all, an incredible dessert island. The best part? It’s reasonably priced and you can bring the kids.

As we hungrily roamed the extraordinary food displays, we marveled at the attention to detail by the many chefs who could be seen cooking, slicing and serving. Although there are too many items to list, here are just a few of the selections that we loved.

Beginning at the salad bar, I topped a bed of spinach with mushrooms, bacon bits, hard-boiled eggs, blue cheese crumbles and toasted sesame dressing. Yum! My hubby was happy to build his own Caesar salad with fresh romaine and all the fixings. Among the numerous Asian choices, we favored the dim sum with pork and shrimp, Mongolian beef, spicy General Tso’s chicken and a teriyaki fish filet that was flaky and mild. There were also American, Italian and Mexican dishes. From the “Waterfall Specialties” table, the chicken Marsala and beef bourguignon were both very tender in their own savory sauces. The “Chef’s Carving Station” offered slow-roasted prime rib with au jus, horseradish cream, and mashed Yukon Gold potatoes – quite simply, some of the best I’ve ever tasted.

And finally, we made the trip to the amazing dessert oasis. Save room for mint-chocolate pie, chocolate-raspberry truffles and double-layer chocolate cake, as well as fresh fruit, brownies, ice cream and chocolate-covered strawberries.

Even getting to the restaurant is an adventure: From the main entrance, just follow the short path through the jungle of singing slot machines. Since it was nighttime, we did not get to enjoy the Foothills view from the restaurant’s wall of windows, which is why our next visit will be for Sunday brunch!
