An empty stomach and a chilly afternoon recently sent me into Folsom’s newest venture in power dining: Fornotino,

an upscale Italian quick-serve restaurant specializing in baked pastas, handmade Italian wraps and sandwiches, and New York-style pizza. The décor was simple, and the red and green walls adorned with pictures of Italian dishes made me even hungrier. After pouring over the menu I decided on the aptly titled Italian Combo, featuring both lasagna and a serving of their Pasta Fornotino – penne tossed with spinach and pepperoni in an Alfredo cream sauce. The meal arrived piping hot, waiting to be devoured. I dug into the lasagna first. It was rich and wholesome, with just enough ricotta to bring the flavors of the meat sauce and buttery noodles together. The Pasta Fornotino was equally satisfying – flavorful and creamy without being cloying. The Alfredo sauce enveloped each tube of penne while the silky spinach and salty pepperoni complemented every bite. The portions were hearty, but not oversized, and the prices competitive. With quality food, fast service and affordable prices, I’ll definitely be back to sample more of their menu. Fornotino, 25035 Blue Ravine Road, Suite 120, Folsom, 916-984-4644.
