Q:

Do I really need to get an oil change every 3,000 miles?

A:

Hydrocarbon-based oils are primarily degraded by excess fuel in the crankcase, whereas synthetic oils are not effected much in their lubricating capability. Since the late ’70s to early ’80s, major improvements have been made by auto manufacturers in respect to the fuel, ignition and emission systems. These changes have resulted in the engines performing at a much greater efficiency level, especially due to the use of sophisticated computer monitoring and control systems. There are many auto service centers still recommending oil changes at 3,000-mile intervals. However, most manufactures recommend oil changes at 7,500 miles and some others at 5,000 miles. There are no manufactures, who I know of, that recommend oil be changed every 3,000 miles, unless the vehicle is used in severe conditions. If synthetic oils are used or required, as is the case in some vehicles, the service interval is significantly longer. I recommend you refer to your maintenance schedule.

Q:

I am interested in removing unwanted hair on my face and legs, but I have olive complexion and dark coarse hair. Is laser hair removal a viable option for me?

A:

Yes, it can be. The main issues with laser hair removal are pain with the treatment or the very small risk of burns in darker skinned patients. Newer equipment such as our Soprano XL laser hair removal unit provides nearly pain-free hair removal without topical anesthetic creams in most patients and can treat any skin type safely. Minor side effects such as redness, swelling or irritation generally last only a few hours, even if you have sensitive skin. Your sensitive skin should not be an obstacle for getting safe and effective laser hair removal.
