Happy February! The El Dorado Hills Community Services District board of directors has appointed Richard J. Ramirez interim general manager. Ramirez will evaluate and manage all district operations while a national search for a permanent general manager is underway.

Looking for something different for lunch – something homemade, fresh and affordable? Look no further than the casual and friendly dining centers of the El Dorado County Senior Nutrition Program. Adults 60 years or older can enjoy fresh homemade entrées that change daily, Monday through Friday. Meals are served between 12-12:30 p.m. for a suggested donation of $3. Dining centers are located in Placerville, Diamond Springs, Pollock Pines, Greenwood, Somerset, El Dorado Hills and South Lake Tahoe. For more information, call 530-621-6160.

Are gas prices affecting your budget? Join the Senior Shuttle carpool for your grocery shopping! The volunteer-driven van is available to assist seniors with grocery shopping and small day trips in the Placerville area; a $2 donation is suggested. For more information, call 530-621-6369.

The Falcon’s Eye Theatre calls for students and/or actors from the community to audition for its production of Carlo Gozzi’s classic fairytale, The King Stag. Auditions will be held on February 13 in the Drama Lab (PAC-1170) at the Three Stages Performing Arts Center from 6:30-10 p.m. Those auditioning must prepare a memorized monologue that is no more than 90-seconds long from any stage play.

California had one of the biggest losses of government workers in the last five years, according to U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics data. Since 2006, the state lost approximately 47,800 government jobs. In comparison, government employment, which includes federal, state and local agencies, has actually increased in 30 states and the District of Columbia. The After Five Club, a free support group for those providing care to individuals with Alzheimer’s, dementia or other related chronic health conditions, is meeting on February 8 from 5:30-7 p.m. at the Senior Day Care Center in Placerville. Attendees can share information, successful coping strategies, and available options in an emotionally supportive and confidential setting. My Time, a similar support group will hold its monthly meeting on February 3, from 1:30-3 p.m. at the Placerville Senior Center. Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Ruth Michelson will facilitate the session.  The group is open to the public and is free of charge.
