Happy February! Congrats to John Javidan, the new general manager at the Placer County Fair Association. Javidan will now promote and manage the Placer County Fair and Events Center and the All American Speedway.

Congratulations to Roseville seventh grader, Sophia Reiner who was accepted into this year’s national People to People ambassador program. She, along with 39 other students, will travel to six European countries over 19 days this summer as student ambassadors! For more information, visit peopletopeople.com.

Since November, the Roseville Police Department has received 65 reports of stolen catalytic converters, mostly from Toyota trucks and SUVs. The Department is currently investigating several scrap metal dealers in the region who buy large quantities of crudely sawed-off catalytic converters, copper wire and metal items.

On January 1, Auburn native and author Joan Merriam was featured on the program Deadly Women on the Investigation Discovery channel. In the interview, Merriam reflects writing Little Girl Lost: A True Story of Shattered Innocence and Murder, which chronicled the 1983 Auburn murder of Anna Brackett.

Kudos to Lisa Brown, the City of Roseville’s Water Efficiency administrator, for being awarded the 2011 Regional Water Authority’s (RWA) “Water Statesperson of the Year” award.

Over 1,000 pounds of new toys were donated by community members at the annual Holidays in the Hills wine tasting event held December 10-11. The Placer County Vintners Association (PCVA) presented the toys collected to the South Placer Chapter of Marine Toys for Tots.

In more giving news, Liz and Jim Reego, owners of six local La-Z-Boy Furniture Galleries, donated $12,000 worth of La-Z-Boy furniture to the “Taylor House,” a home in downtown Roseville purchased by a CASA volunteer and concerned citizen, which houses young women turning 18 who are no longer able to stay in foster care.

Roseville High School will commemorate its 100th anniversary this year with a series of events and projects – including painting a mural on campus that depicts the school’s history and releasing a “Centennial Memory Book” – to highlight the City’s oldest high school. Congrats to Roseville’s own female Rhodesian ridgebacks Whitney and Zuri who were recently featured in the 2012 Bad Dog page-a-day and wall calendars and the 2012 Rhodesian Ridgeback Rescue calendar. The dogs, owned by Sherry Wintsch, have been photographed for six calendars and at one time were national representatives for their breed.
