Describe your business. Did you find it, or did it find you?

I’ve been a hairstylist for over 35 years and also have training in esthetics (skin care). My second grade teacher had such an impact on me that I wanted to be a teacher, but upon graduation there were too many teachers; therefore, I did the next best thing for me as I was always cutting and styling my own hair – I went to beauty college. Who knew years later I would teach in the beauty industry? Life always has a way of coming full circle.

What was the first job you ever had, and what did you learn from the experience?

In high school I worked in a butcher shop assisting and taking orders, which was my first introduction to the importance of perfection in my work and great customer service.

Where do you go when the going gets tough?

I find peace, beauty and solace in nature; I surround myself with gardening and ground myself, literally, with my hands in the soil! Then, I finish off the day with a glass of wine, a hot tub, and a gourmet meal with my wonderful and loving husband who has shown me what unconditional love is all about.

What’s your hidden talent?

Singing. My three brothers and I sang gospel music for 15 years. It fills my soul and lifts my spirit! And even today when I need inspiration, out comes the music! Styling hair and listening to good music are therapy.

What’s your favorite place to eat out locally?

Chez Daniel.

And finally, customer service is…?

Customer service, along with showing gratitude, is the most important part of my business! A world-class business consists of three things: a progressive and educated professional, an excellent chair-side manner, and delivering and showing consistent appreciation.
