Gularte's Diamond Deli & Pizza

Tooling along Pleasant Valley Road on a cold and windy winter’s night after a long day on the road, the neon red “Open” sign at Gularte’s drew my wife and I in.

Looking for something quick and satisfying to eat, we were pleased to find a variety of sandwiches and take-and-bake pizzas on the menu. With simple décor, including family photos adorning the walls, the deli is unassuming. But as we soon discovered, the food more than makes up for what the ambiance lacks.

We started with a Cranberry Walnut Salad that turned out to be the true standout of the meal. Sitting atop fresh, crisp lettuce were crunchy walnuts that nicely offset sweet and tangy cranberries and pungent blue cheese. The slightly sweet raspberry vinaigrette was the perfect complement; we loved it! The hot and tasty French Dip sandwich came on a soft commercial-style sandwich bun with deli-style roast beef and a slice of jack cheese, served alongside a cup of savory and not-too-salty dipping juice. In all, the flavorful sandwich was just the sustenance we needed for the voyage home. For dessert, we ordered a slice of the rich Chocolate Mousse Cake. It was the ideal end to a satisfying supper.

Although Gularte’s will bake any of their pizzas for a $5 service fee, we decided to take Michelle’s Groovy Garlic pizza (and a box of cookie dough!) to go for the following night’s dinner. As it warmed in the oven, the white garlic sauce and fresh vegetables filled our kitchen with delicious aromas. Thankfully, it tasted as good as it smelled! After, we enjoyed fresh-out-of-the-oven chocolate chip cookies with milk – a perfect treat on a chilly evening.

Whatever your mood (or schedule) calls for – a meal out or takeout to enjoy at home – Gularte’s does not disappoint!
