Describe your business. Did you find it, or did it find you?

It’s difficult to say whether we found it or it found us. We were unhappy with recalls, big box stores and “marts,” and decided to make a difference. We started Dandelions in this poor economy because we believed we could offer quality goods guided by ethical standards. It is tough to have a personal belief turn into a business, however, Dandelions – Raising Children Naturally is a blend of our love of family, education and appreciation of childhood imagination. We search for heirloom quality gifts, wooden toys, clothing and items to reflect our personal commitment to buying “Made in USA,” supporting local artisans, and catering to eco-friendly manufacturing. Non-USA companies must provide a “Social Responsibility” statement in writing that says their goods are crafted by adult labor only, and that laborers are paid a fair wage, work in safe conditions, and practice eco-friendly manufacturing processes. Now our hopes are that customers agree with and find us!

How are you involved with both the community and your customer?

We support local community efforts, charities, libraries and nonprofits that serve children of El Dorado County. We host in-store events, like our free “Pirate & Princess Fun” event this past October that featured games, food and crafts. Cameron Park Fire House #89 gave out information and hats. We also host safety events providing Child ID kits for parents and offer CHP car seat safety inspection clinics.

What’s your biggest job perk?

Having artist Cathie Urquhart of Murals and More and her art gallery/studio located inside Dandelions. We are best of friends and often laugh uncontrollably!

What’s your favorite place to eat out locally?

Papa Gianni’s Ristorante in Cameron Park – it’s so good and they are so friendly!

And finally, customer service is…?

Showing our customers that we care. We pay attention to both child and adult, their requests, and we honor their budget. We gift-wrap for free!

Do you know that our editorial is not paid for, nor can it be purchased? In fact, our Introducing and Dine reviews are not paid advertisements. If you’d like your business profiled, please email Wendy Sipple at [email protected]. Once we determine when your business will be featured, we will contact you to schedule a time to come out and take a photograph. Thank you!
