Miss those good ol‘ home-cooked meals that Mom used to make?

I do! Looking to satisfy that craving, my girlfriend and I headed out for dinner and pulled into the Diamond Springs Hotel in (where else?) Diamond Springs. The historic hotel was built back in 1916, but has since closed with the restaurant remaining open, serving family-sized meals on delightful checkered tablecloths. As you walk in, the ambiance is warm and friendly, making you feel right at home.

As the menu touts quite the variety of dishes, I decided to go with a local favorite, the Country Boy (country-fried steak), while my companion opted for The Midwesterner (homemade meatloaf). The Miner’s Chicken (crispy fried chicken) and Prime Rib of Beef were also tempting. Our adventure began with warm rolls and butter, followed by a vegetable-rich dinner salad for me, and the beef barley soup (yum) for my dinner partner. The relaxed, family-style atmosphere surrounded us as we watched the locals interact and laugh with the staff.

As our heaping dinner plates arrived, I felt my eyes bulge! My country-fried steak and mashed potatoes were hidden under delicious country gravy, resting beside a sautéed squash medley. My partner’s plate was similarly attired but with a rich, brown gravy. After devouring half of our portions, we decided to leave a tiny bit of room for the Chocolate Mousse (though it was hard to pass up the Chocolate Suicide Cake). Thankfully, our selection didn’t leave us disappointed.

Whether you’re longing for delicious home cooking or simply a good meal, take a drive on over to the Diamond Springs Hotel. Just don’t forget to bring your appetite!
