For Dr. Thomas Merchant, the best part about being an orthopedic surgeon is helping people regain their normal lives after an injury.

“It’s very rewarding,” he explains. “I like the fact that what we do can bring people back to a lifestyle they enjoy.”

In addition to his surgical practice for Roseville Orthopedic Surgery and Sports Medicine, Merchant is the team physician for Sierra College Athletics and a long-time member of STOP (Sports Trauma and Overuse Prevention), an organization founded by the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM) in order to spread the word to young athletes about preventable sports injuries. Through STOP, Merchant has visited high schools and colleges throughout Rocklin, Roseville and Granite Bay, educating children and coaches about the importance of proper training techniques and general fitness for avoiding injury.

In his spare time, Merchant is an avid tennis player and skier. He also spends countless hours supporting school athletics programs by giving free pre-season physicals to local high school and college teams. More than anything, however, Merchant is dedicated to advancing his medical practice. “I’m committed to doing the best thing for my patients,” he says. It appears Merchant is doing great things for the community’s youth as well.
