Describe your business. Did you find it, or did it find you?

Personal training found me. I studied bio-behavioral health in college and from there on out I knew I had to help people prevent the development of the diseases and conditions I learned about. An active and healthy lifestyle has always been on the prescription list to decrease your risk factors, so personal training seemed like a perfect way for me to reach out and make a difference.

What was the first job you ever had, and what did you learn from the experience?

My first job was a paper route when I was in sixth grade. It taught me responsibility, time management and how to build great relationships with customers.

How are you involved with both the community and your customer?

This past Memorial Day weekend, I organized and hosted the first annual Keys to Fitness Wounded Warrior Run. I wanted to reach out to the community and get them to come out and be active while supporting our wounded troops. There was a 3K walk and a 5K run, so all levels of fitness were welcome and the money raised went to the Wounded Warrior Project. I always do a free consultation with any potential client. I want to learn more about them so I can develop an exercise program that is just right for him or her, based on their health history, likes, dislikes and any past injuries. I also do a basic fitness assessment so that there is a baseline to compare progress to.

What’s your biggest job perk?

The best part of my job is when I get to see the look of pride on my clients’ faces when they overcome an obstacle. It’s so inspiring! It’s why I continue to do what I do.
