Mary Cory invites everyone to visit the El Dorado County Historical Museum. “The Museum is a wonderful collection of artifacts and documents that have been donated over the course of many years,” she says.

“It reflects the history of the county; it reflects what people saved and want to see in a museum. Residents and visitors can come to see the artifacts that were so important to the people of an earlier time. We have also concentrated on building an impressive local history and research archives center. People contact us from all over the world for historical information about families and locations.”

Cory has served as the director of the El Dorado County Historical Museum for the past 12 years. As the sole paid employee, she relies heavily on a dedicated volunteer staff to work with the public as docents, conduct research, and assist with special projects. “The volunteers are great!” says Cory. “The support and involvement from volunteers and the public is an integral part of this museum. Working with the volunteers to continually improve the museum collections, exhibits, archives, and the historical railroad operation (including the development of a railroad park in El Dorado), continues to be exciting, challenging and rewarding.”
