Describe your business. Did you find it, or did it find you?

Tutor Doctor provides one-on-one, in-home tutoring for students of all ages and in all subjects. We researched several businesses before deciding to open a Tutor Doctor franchise. It’s a great fit for us because we both have backgrounds in training and in management.

How are you involved with both the community and your customer?

Tutor Doctor is a community service business. We are members of the local chamber of commerce, the PTA, and we support local events such as Run with Nature and Eggstravaganza. We have a true connection with our customers because we have firsthand experience dealing with the challenges of managing two careers and helping our son achieve his goals in school.

Why is your staff the best in the business?

Our tutor roster is staffed with a truly diverse mix of professionals. We have been amazed at the quality of people that we have come in contact with when recruiting tutors – some are credentialed teachers, and all of them want to help other people.

What life accomplishments are you most proud of?

I started a corporate university from the ground up, including writing and presenting the business plan, hiring staff, purchasing the software tools necessary to build online content, and actually developing the content. I have always been interested in the way people learn, and this job helped me put my interest to work in a positive way.

Where do you go when the going gets tough?

I go over to CalFit and get a workout in. Working up a good sweat can provide perspective.

What’s your biggest job perk?

Hearing about student successes and knowing that we played our part.

And finally, customer service is…?

Understanding our customer’s goals and helping to achieve them.

Do you know that our editorial is not paid for, nor can it be purchased? In fact, our Introducing and Dine reviews are not paid advertisements. If you’d like your business profiled, please email Wendy Sipple at [email protected]. Once we determine when your business will be featured, we will contact you to schedule a time to come out and take a photograph. Thank you!
