Describe your business. Did you find it, or did it find you?
I began Birth Tools in 2006 as a way to empower families through childbirth education and doula services. After receiving amazing care during my pregnancy and the birth of my son, I wanted to give back to other women. I truly feel that the care you receive when creating your family guides the type of parent you become.
How are you involved with both the community and your customer?
Every woman deserves a doula! I love volunteering my childbirth classes and doula services to pregnant teens. I feel society unfairly assumes that young parents can’t be good parents. With love and support you can be a good mom at any age.
Where do you go when the going gets tough?
I go outside! Whether going on a run by myself, biking with my kids, or lounging in the backyard with a margarita – the fresh air always helps me feel better!
What’s your biggest job perk?
That’s a tough decision! I get to be a part of one of the most intimate and joyous times in people’s lives. I love teaching childbirth classes, and I feel so lucky to be at every birth that I attend. But the best is a common reaction that dads have after a birth, when I hear them say: “Wow, I wasn’t convinced that we really needed a doula, but I don’t know how we would have done it without you!”
Where do you and your family go locally to have fun?
Our family just recently moved to Folsom. We love the community, especially the Humbug Willow Creek Trail, which we run and bike on daily.
And finally, customer service is…?
As a doula and childbirth educator, customer service is presenting all of the options to families without passing judgment or making decisions for them. You can empower parents so much by teaching them about their choices and giving them the strength and support to choose what’s right for their family.
