The 2011 season of Second Saturday of El Dorado Hills is kicking off July 9 at Montano de El Dorado from 12-8 p.m.! Future art walks are scheduled through October 8. For more details, email [email protected].

Congrats to local rock band JAXX! Members Alan Petterle, Jack Petterle, Nikkos Savas and Kyle Maxwell, all ages 14-16, stole the spotlight and took first place in the contemporary category at the 2011 JAMMIES at Crest Theatre. Way to go!

On August 20, The Cappuccino Cruisers will host Graffiti Night: Sizzling on Sutter Street, which will feature a tribute to the forefathers of car customizing, live music, raffles and more. Three cheers to Disabled Sports USA Far West, a Sacramento-area non-profit organization, for its achievement as a winner of Toyota’s “100 Cars for Good” program. Over a 100-day span, Toyota will award 100 cars to 100 U.S. nonprofits. Disabled Sports USA Far West was selected from thousands of applications nationwide and chosen by a public vote!

Four local high school students took home top honors at the 15th Annual Teen Digital Reel Showcase held at the Crest Theatre in May. Folsom High School students Colton Stock and Joseph Targos won one of three awards in the “Action” category, and Vista Del Lago students Riley MacTaggart and Andrew Brainerd won one of two awards in the “Commercial Duet” category. El Dorado Hills’ Hands4Hope held its Spring Food Bank Blitz in April; more than 200 volunteers spread awareness of hunger to shoppers at 10 local grocery stores, and more than 4,000 pounds of food and $10,400 in cash and gift cards was collected. Folsom’s Gallery at 48 Natoma will open its “Pastels in Light” exhibit on July 15. Selected work from the Pastel Society of the West Coast will be highlighted, along with additional paintings to be judged by internationally known artist Marbo Barnard. For details, visit folsom.ca.us.
