The Placer County Economic Development Board awarded five businesses and the Westfield Galleria’s Recovery Team for their contributions to the economic health of the county at the end of March. High Hand Nursery, TGH Aviation, ioSAFE Corp., Robbjack Corp. and Thunder Valley Casino and Resort were all honored at the ceremony. Congratulations from Style!

Get out your picnic baskets and blankets and head out to Johnson-Springview Park for the Evening in the Park concert series. Each show starts at 7 p.m., and the dates are June 10, July 8 and 22, and August 5. For more details, check out rocklinchamber.com.

Beer lovers take note! Roseville Brewing Co. will now sell its beer locally. The first round of packaging will be in kegs, with a later expansion into refillable bottles. Look out for these new brews!

The Humane Society of the Sierra Foothills has instituted a new program to prevent animal abuse in Placer County. Three Humane Officers will have the power to make arrests in cases dealing with animal abuse, however their main objective is to work with pet owners to prevent animal abuse. Congratulations to the City of Rocklin’s new Police Chief Ronald Allen Lawrence, who took office April 1. Lawrence has served in law enforcement since March 1990 and has been working in Rocklin since 2006.

Dr. Darryl Hunter, MD, a radiation oncologist at Kaiser Permanente in Roseville, was one of 11 recipients of the 2010 David Lawrence Community Award. He has been recognized for his commitment to community. In 2009, he helped found the Sacramento Community Cancer Coalition, a group that performs free cancer screenings. Bravo!

Take part in the “World’s Largest Swim Lesson” on June 14 from 8-8:45 a.m. at the Roseville Aquatics Complex. The event will be held around the world at the same time to break the Guinness World Record. For more details, visit worldslargestswimminglesson.org.

The City of Roseville was recently honored by the California Water and Environment Association for its water collection system. They beat out other large wastewater systems throughout California.

Mary L. George has been appointed as the county director of library services for the Placer County Library. She was approved unanimously. Congratulations!

Even more congratulations are in order for Marshall C. Hopper, who has been selected as the county’s new Chief Probation Officer. He was also confirmed unanimously.

Gracepoint Adventist Church of Rocklin will provide a free health clinic on the third Sunday of every month. The clinic offers numerous health services for those without health care.For details, visit graceisthepoint.org.

The Fountains at Roseville has launched its fourth annual Summer Concert and Entertainment Series, which will kick off on June 11. Every Saturday and Wednesday during June, the Fountains stage will feature a different band. Through August 27, Friday is Family Fun Night at the stage and will feature games, prizes and music. Two Rocklin businesses, Brower Mechanical and ReNwl Systems, were the first to receive certification from the Placer Green Business Recognition Program for their green practices. Congratulations!
