“Local boy makes good.” Thus could read the headline for El Dorado County’s new sheriff, John D’Agostini. Elected to office last fall, D’Agostini began his duties as sheriff in January of this year.

If there’s one thing you can be sure of, it’s that D’Agostini knows El Dorado County. He is a fourth generation native from a family whose name became known locally in the building industry. After being raised in that environment, D’Agostini had his eye on something different: law enforcement. He spent 17 years in Amador County law enforcement in various capacities. He put himself through the training academy, going part-time while also working part-time. Upon graduation, D’agostini applied for full-time and was coroner before going to the narcotics unit. After a stint in the District Attorney’s office, he headed the local unit of the state’s Narcotics Task Force.

So why run for sheriff? “It was time,” says D’Agostini. “The idea had been in the back of my head for awhile and after a lot of discussion and prayer, my wife and I decided now was the time.” D’Agostini believes in service and giving back; El Dorado County will be reaping the rewards of his principles for at least the next four years. Welcome aboard, Sheriff!
