Describe your business.

I sell used books along with a splash of new books, cards, bookmarks and book totes. My bookstore is clean, spacious and very welcoming with comfortable seating. My favorite area is the children’s reading rug, although I have caught some moms and dads lounging on it. Occasionally, I have live instrumental music on Fridays or Saturdays. I love the thought that I am contributing to a “green” environment by selling used books. I would say my “passion” found me.

How are you involved with both the community and your customer?

I am part of two non-profit organizations assisting underprivileged kids and their families. I donate books to fundraising projects in various schools, and I was part of KCRA’s “Operation Backpack.” I greet each and every customer who walks through my door and look at them as “friends” I haven’t met yet.

Why is your staff the best in the business?

When you have the “passion” from day to day, it’s easy to be the best. Marianne, who I met through my store, is a walking encyclopedia and very friendly and fun to work with daily.

What life accomplishments are you most proud of?

My three sons – Andrew, Luke and Ian – and of course my bookstore.

What’s your favorite place to eat out locally?

I love Macaroni Grill. I always enjoy the ambiance, customer service, food and wine.

What’s your favorite childhood memory?

I have many, but the one that stands out the most would be our first trip to Disneyland. We drove there in my parent’s truck and trailer. It was so fun.

What’s your favorite local business other than your own?

I really enjoy Sur La Table. Their selection is so unique, and the staff is awesome.

If you could be any other profession what would it be?

A motivational speaker. I will write a book about that chapter of my life.

And finally, customer service is…?

Essential! And it is so simple and fun!
