Describe your business. Did you find it, or did it find you?

As our company name indicates, we are in the business of developing people. We help busy managers develop their employees using several systems: training, coaching, performance consulting and team development.

Tyler (my son who works with me in the business) and I used to work for Intel, which is a company that richly invests in employee development. As a manager, I taught for Intel University and enjoyed it so much that I decided I would one-day use Intel’s philosophy to help other organizations.

How are you involved with both the community and your customer?

For over six years, Tyler and I have served on the board of the Sacramento Chapter of the American Society of Training and Development; I was President in 2006. I am very active in our church: teaching, coaching, and helping with hospitality. I have provided pro bono services to non-profit organizations like the Sacramento Children’s Home. Two weeks ago I helped my wife, Sharron, with a fundraising effort for Sacred Selections, a Folsom-based nonprofit that funds adoptions.

What’s your hidden talent?

It’s not really a talent, but a quality: integrity. I will not lie or deceive customers for my own gain. I have lost money in order to keep my word. Customers get a vendor whom is completely honest and works for them wholeheartedly.

What’s your biggest job perk?

Continuous growth. To do well at training and development, we must continually grow and develop. My job forces me to read, create and evolve our materials and systems.

What’s your favorite place to eat out locally?

My wife and I love Mexican food. We often eat at Mexquite and El Rincon. For more special occasions, we usually go to Fat’s.

And finally, customer service is…?

Finding out what the customer wants and consistently providing it. It’s also finding “the pickle,” which is that something extra the customer is not expecting.
