As a child, Leilani Vierra always wanted to have a pet.

These days, as CEO of Placer SPCA and owner of three dogs and two cats, she’s more than made up for that childhood longing. Along with the staff and volunteers at the Placer SPCA, Vierra works tirelessly to place every animal at the shelter with a caring family – in addition to providing inexpensive or free spaying and neutering services to the community. She even fosters many sick animals at her home, nursing them back to health in preparation for adoption.  “There’s a mother cat and her kitten in my bathtub,” she admits, adding that most of the animals at the shelter are perfectly healthy and only in need of a good home.

In her spare time, Vierra volunteers her time with the Roseville Chamber of Commerce and other community projects, such as bringing pets to visit the elderly. Her long-term goal is to see every homeless animal adopted, and she knows that Placer County is the place to accomplish that goal. “This community is outstanding,” Vierra notes. “I’ve never felt so connected.”
