Describe your business. Did you find it, or did it find you?

I started Doonan’s as a high-value, traditional shop and business for my son Brian, a barber.

What was the first job you ever had, and what did you learn from the experience?

During high school, I worked as a food server in a concession business and learned that customer service is the key to success.

How are you involved with both the community and your customer?

Doonan’s sponsors the event “A Cut For,” which donates a percentage of proceeds to local high schools.

Why is your staff the best in the business?

They are highly motivated and dedicated.

What life accomplishments are you most proud of?

My two sons, Brian and Chad.

Who is your role model in business or in life, and why?

My dad. He was a focused man that lived a traditional life and had strong business values.

Where do you go when the going gets tough?

For a walk, to the gym or to my church.

What’s your hidden talent?

Interacting with people and thinking up new ideas.

What’s your biggest job perk?

Customer satisfaction and business growth.

What’s your favorite place to eat out locally?

Lucille’s Smokehouse Bar-B-Que.

Where do you and your family go locally to have fun?

Indoor soccer at California Family Fitness and outdoor soccer at Mahany Park.

What’s your favorite childhood memory?

Camping with the Boy Scouts and my family.

If you could meet someone living or dead, who would it be and why?

My wife, Roxanna, who passed away in 2003.

What’s your favorite local event that you go to?

My son’s soccer games.

What’s your favorite local business other than your own?

Steve’s Pizza.
