This month Style congratulates Golden Hills School in El Dorado Hills for their recent honor and big win in the “2010 Math Invitational” at Christian Brothers High School.

Mercy Hospital of Folsom is now in the process of expanding their services with a new 21-bed telemetry unit. The $15 million project is slated to open in Spring 2011. For more details, visit mercyfolsom.org.

Style would like to congratulate Sydney Sheppard from Folsom, who was selected as one of 10 motorcyclists to take part in “Victory Motorcycle’s True American Road Trip.” She was selected after a nationwide search. For her efforts, Victory awarded her a complimentary lease on its new Cross Country motorcycle!

And while we’re at it, we would also like to congratulate Carolyn Sweeney who recently received an appointment at the annual Grand Assembly Session of the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls. Appointed to the office of Grand Faith, she has been a member of Natoma Assembly Rainbow Girls in Folsom since 2003. The girls help to make a difference in our community through charitable giving, community service and volunteerism.

Sutter Street in the Historic District of Folsom now hosts monthly events. Every second Saturday, over 30 businesses are open until 9 p.m. and the evenings include an art walk, street performers, wine and chocolate tasting and more.

On a sad note, we, along with the rest of the community mourn the loss of Folsom Zoo Black Bear Fisher, a beloved friend and community favorite that passed away. Fisher will be missed and you can visit his “Fisher’s Beastro” at the Folsom Zoo Sanctuary. Now open Tuesday through Sunday, 10:30 to 3:30, you can enjoy a nice lunch while visiting! Mercy Hospital of Folsom is smoke-free! Recently, Mercy Hospital transitioned to a totally smoke-free campus. In addition to the interior of the hospital, smoking is now prohibited in all parking lots, walkways and break areas. Mercy’s mission is to protect the health and wellbeing of the community they serve. Job well done!

And we give a big “thank you!” to Matt and the Crew at Starbucks on East Bidwell & Hwy 50 for keeping the Play For All workers well caffeinated for weeks while they completed the universally-accessible playground at Folsom City Park!”
