Goings on in the El Dorado County Foothills Area!

It’s that time again for warm weather and lots of sunshine! Shop for local fruit, vegetables, and many other goodies every Sunday this summer from 8 a.m. to noon at the weekly Farmers’ Market. The market takes place at Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park beginning June 6. For more information, call 530-295-2170.

Start this summer season off right with the Music in the Mountains Summer Fest: Tell Me a Story. To find out how you can be a part of this month-long music celebration, June 5-July 3, visit musicinthemountains.org.

The El Dorado County Chamber of Commerce has partnered with the Golden Sierra Workforce Investment Board and the California Employers Association to provide all employers in El Dorado County access to a Free Human Resources Hotline! This consulting hotline is available for unlimited phone call advice until June 30, 2011.

Style would like to recognize Lake Tahoe’s McCall Realty and owner Thane McCall, who recently announced he will donate all of his 2010 profits to five area children’s organizations. The Boys and Girls Club of Lake Tahoe; CASA; South Lake Tahoe Women’s Center; South Lake Tahoe PAL; and Tahoe Youth and Family Services will all benefit from this donation. Head up the hill for “Wine Down Friday,” with live music on June 25 at the waterfall site at David Girard Vineyards from 6-8:30 p.m. The event is free; food and wine will be available for purchase.

The Western Slope Aquatic Center will host YMCA swimming programs, including parent-child swimming lessons, lap swim, and special events and activities. For summer memberships, call the YMCA at 916-452-9622, ext. 101.

Are you a local caregiver? Join fellow area caregivers as the El Dorado County’s Family Caregiver Support Program hosts this opportunity to become connected and rejuvenated in a  group setting on June 8. The support group meets from 3-4 p.m. at the Georgetown Fire Station at 6283 Main Street in Georgetown. Refreshments will be served; for more information, call 530-621-6251.

Style would like to congratulate Timothy Hollingsworth, a former Placerville resident, for winning the “Rising Star Chef” category in the 2010 James Beard Foundation Awards. Hollingsworth is a 1998 graduate of El Dorado High School, and currently serves as Chef de Cuisine at The French Laundry in Yountville, California.

The El Dorado County Master Gardeners, with the University of California Cooperative Extension will lead a free “Salsa Gardening” class at the Veteran’s Memorial Building in Placerville from 9 a.m. to noon on June 5. Call 530-621-5512 to verify location and more information.
