Andrew Bradley

Tell us about yourself.

As far as school goes, I love History and Woodshop. I’ve learned that working with my hands and being active is the only thing I could ever do. I know I would be bored just sitting at a desk all day. So in my other classes I tend to lose focus. When I’m away from school I stay fit by going to the gym and working out whenever I can. But I feel my biggest achievement is just making it through school and figuring out what I want to do with my life.

How has living in the community shaped you as a person, and how do you feel it will affect the way you contribute to the world in the future?

Through any community I’ve lived in, I see people who struggle and it’s helped me to really grow up and want to help those people who can’t always help themselves, so that’s what I see myself doing.

What advice would you give to incoming high school students?

All you have to do is show up on time, pay attention and do your work!

What has been the most memorable event of your senior year?

When my friends and I went to San Diego for spring break to visit a college and the beach.

What are your plans after graduation?

After I graduate I plan to go to a great fire academy and I’ve narrowed it down to three, so I feel pretty confident about my future.

Who is your role model?

My role models would have to be my family. I look up to each and every one of them for everything I need. Also, I really look up to all the guys at Cal Fire Station 180 in Auburn where I do my ROP. They try and teach me everything they know when they can and I am so grateful.

If you could travel anywhere, where would you go?

If I could go anywhere I would go to the Caribbean or Jamaica; somewhere tropical because I love the beach, the sunshine, and just how relaxed it is.

Parabhjeet Dhanda

Tell us about yourself.

I go by PBJ, and I was born and raised in Canada! My favorite sport of all time is ice hockey. Go Canucks! Some of my hobbies are styling, community service, working out, and just trying new things! I do wrestling and kickboxing, tennis, yoga, ice hockey, and dancing. I was on my school’s coed Bhangra Team my sophomore year, and captain of “Diamonds of Bhangra” my junior and senior year. I also wrestled sophomore and junior year, and played varsity girls tennis my senior year. I was an assistant coach for my brother’s basketball team, and was a counselor at Oakmont’s Summer Splash program. I helped get a “Sober Driving Month” advertisement on the radio.

What local charities/causes are close to your heart and why?

I like school programs such as Interact and Teens for Humanity because I have participated in them since freshman year with my close friends, and the clubs help many. I also like to participate in walks such as Breast Cancer Awareness or Earth Day walks because it brings the community together for a good cause. You don’t have to be rich to help out in the community. Simple tasks such as picking up trash (I hate littering), helping at your local church, or sparing a few dollars for the needy helps out a great deal.

How has living in the community shaped you as a person, and how do you feel it will affect the way you contribute to the world in the future?

Moving from Canada to North Highlands, to Antelope, to Roseville, back to Canada, and back to Sacramento has made me realize that many things change quickly over the years. Although there have been many beneficial achievements such as rapid construction of The Fountains at Roseville, poverty has also rapidly increased. You see more homeless people on the streets. We should do more to help these people. Starting more homeless shelters, soup kitchens and employment agencies can help these people get back on their feet again. It would be beneficial to all if we step up and try to solve this problem.

What advice would you give to incoming high school students?

Don’t lose focus on your studies because when senior year comes around, colleges don’t want to see bad grades. And also, stay away from fights.

Who is your role model?

Donald Trump, he is a business superhero and whether good times or bad, he always stays on top!

Describe your career aspirations.

Let’s just say in 10 years, I will be the richest woman in America and you will be working for me.

If you could travel anywhere, where would you go?

Switzerland, because they’re known for the world’s best chocolate!

Jackson Cummings

Tell us about yourself.

My school interests include Psychology and History. Outside of school, I enjoy ping-pong, cars, football and basketball. My awards include NorCal Offensive Player of the Year, SFL League MVP, CIF Dale Lackey Award, American Citizenship Award, President’s Academic Excellence; I am a member of Academic Honor Society, and I’ve been recognized as a CIF scholar athlete, and by the National Football Foundation.

What local charities/causes are close to your heart and why?

Make-A-Wish Foundation. A close family friend went through an illness.

How has living in the community shaped you as a person, and how do you feel it will affect the way you contribute to the world in the future?

It has shaped me in many ways. I’ve received tons of support in anything I’ve done. I hope to take the things I’ve learned and apply them to my life and my family’s.

What’s one thing that not many people know about you?

I am an extreme car enthusiast.

What advice would you give to incoming high school students?

Give 100 percent of your effort to everything you do, and don’t sell yourself short.

What has been the most memorable event of your senior year?

Playing in the CIF State Championship football game.

What are your plans after graduation?

Playing football at Stanford.

My dad.

Shannon Stowers

Tell us about yourself.

I have been in Student Government all four years, serving various positions including class vice president. This is my third year on the school newspaper. This year I am the co-editor-in-chief, and I have developed a true love of journalism. I have been fortunate to receive several awards, such as the RHS Distinguished Community Service award, and won first place two consecutive years as a courtroom journalist in the Regional Mock Trial competitions.

What local charities/causes are close to your heart and why?

The majority of my 630 hours of community service have been served at Sutter Roseville Medical Center. The hospital has been a huge part of my life for the past four years. Since my sophomore year, I have been the Junior Auxiliary Manager, where I oversee approximately 70 high school volunteers. Working at the hospital has opened my eyes to the medical field, and how it affects peoples’ lives, especially when they are in need.

What’s one thing that not many people know about you?

I love flying, and I want to learn how to fly an airplane.

What advice would you give to incoming high school students?

Take advantage of clubs, sports, community events, whatever you find interesting, and give it your all. The experiences and lessons that you learn from being involved help build a solid foundation for your future.

What are your plans after graduation?

I’m looking forward to attending a four-year university, most likely UCLA or the University of San Diego.

Who is your role model?

I look up to my mother in all aspects of my life. She has always been a huge influence, and has supported me in all of my endeavors. She is intelligent, caring and compassionate, all attributes I admire.

Describe your career aspirations.

My extensive exposure to the health care field, including a summer internship at Kaiser and volunteering at the hospital, has spawned my interest in the medical field. I am currently leaning toward an emphasis in pre-medicine in undergraduate school, but I am interested in other fields, including law and journalism.

Camille Feliciano

Tell us about yourself.

I have participated in my school’s music program through marching band, pep band, pit orchestra, and symphonic band. For marching band, I was the Drum Major for two years and have won three first place trophies and a fourth place trophy at championships for conducting. I am an academic merit award recipient of four years based on my GPA, and have recently became an Academic Scholar for participating in extracurricular activities in addition to maintaining a high GPA.

What local charities/causes are close to your heart and why?

Relay for Life for the American Cancer Society is close to me because whether I am playing an instrument or fundraising for the event, I know that I am helping to save a person from the horrible disease that is cancer.

How has living in the community shaped you as a person, and how do you feel it will affect the way you contribute to the world in the future?

My community has given me determination, awareness, and a place I can call home. These characteristics have pushed me to confront challenges and learn new ideas every day in my life.

What’s one thing that not many people know about you?

I was a ballerina in elementary school and have participated in the San Francisco Nutcracker.

What advice would you give to incoming high school students?

Make every day count. Try something new because high school goes by so fast, and you will never get a second chance. Take every opportunity that your school has to offer, as it will surely benefit you in the future. Lastly, create friends who will always be there for you even though you have gone your separate ways, because even though you are going through the transition of becoming an adult, you can count on them for help.

What are your plans after graduation?

I plan to attend the University of the Pacific and major in civil engineering. During college, I plan to participate in the music program and join the Air Force ROTC program to become an officer in the U.S. Air Force after college.

Who is your role model?

My role model is my grandma because she has always been there for me and always knows how to put a smile on my face.

Describe your career aspirations.

I dream of becoming a civil engineer and an Air Force Officer because I love creating structures.

Victoria Nguyen

Tell us about yourself.

I have many little hobbies, but my love lies between fabric and the sewing machine. I love to dress people up. I like to design upon request or cut up an old shirt I grew bored of. As far as school goes, I’m positive I’ve engaged in all fashion design courses available at RHS. Can you guess what my favorite class was?

What local charities/causes are close to your heart and why?

The North Roseville Rec Center. They are currently operating solely on fundraisers and provide nutritional meals, education, tutoring, and life skill training to families in the neighborhood. What they do is amazing. I hold presidency for a club at school, and we try to help them out as much as we can.

What advice would you give to incoming high school students?

Enroll yourself in every elective possible, because you never know if that “one” class could be the basis of developing your future career. I know it sounds pathetically corny, but trust me after junior year you have little time to decide your life after high school.

What are your plans after graduation?

Upon graduation from RHS, I will be attending the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising. Upon graduation from FIDM, I hope to study abroad in France. Maybe juggle in a couple internships as well.

Who is your role model?

I get inspiration from everyone really. But I would have to say my mother. I try to avoid clichés, but she is incredibly talented. When I was younger I would draw out clothes that I wanted and she would make them flawlessly. I learned all the basics from her.

Describe your career aspirations.

I would love to establish my own brand, get my foot in the fashion door, you know? If that becomes faulty, I would be just as happy to open a boutique.

Abby Bates

Tell us about yourself.

My favorite high school class are AP Environmental Science and AP Human Geography, which is basically like an introduction to anthropology. I play softball all of the time, but when I’m not doing that, I like to travel with friends or just be outside – I like being outdoors as much as possible. The awards that mean the most to me are being selected All-Metro for softball as a junior and being selected to represent my school at Girls State. I think my biggest achievement thus far is being accepted into Columbia University.

What local charities/causes are close to your heart and why?

The charity closest to my heart is the nonprofit my dad works with – Dry Creek Conservancy. It focuses mainly on protecting our local watersheds and creeks. It is closest to my heart because other than protecting watersheds, it informs the community about their local environment and ecosystems and what people may be doing that is destructive to them, and how they can stop those destructive habits. I feel that the main reason people do environmentally destructive things is because they aren’t aware of the effects. It also shows that you don’t have to save the whole planet at once; you can start locally and it will have a cumulative effect.

What’s one thing that not many people know about you?

I love the Beatles. When I drive, I constantly listen to them and sing along, way too loudly.

What has been the most memorable event of your senior year?

The most memorable event was getting accepted into Columbia. I couldn’t believe it at the time and I still don’t fully; I don’t think I will believe it until I’m actually in New York City.

What are your plans after graduation?

This summer I will play softball and I hope to intern with the California Legislature before I will leave for college. After college, I plan to join the Peace Corps and then earn a law degree.

Describe your career aspirations.

After I earn my law degree, I want to work in international affairs. I would like to work with developing countries on environmental issues and educating women.

If you could travel anywhere, where would you go?

Everywhere. I want to travel the world and experience different cultures. The first country I want to travel to is South Africa.

Tristan Bell

Tell us about yourself.

I love to road bike, play the guitar, and sing. In school, I most enjoy science and math classes. I was recently honored with the UC Berkeley Regents and Chancellors Scholar Award, which I'm very proud of.

What local charities/causes are close to your heart and why?

I honor the work done by St. Vincent de Paul because of their whole-hearted devotion to giving, not only to the poorest of the poor, but to anyone in the community who finds themselves in need. I also support CrossWalk, a ministry of First Presbyterian Church of Roseville, working as a “big brother” to at-risk kids in my community.

How has living in the community shaped you as a person, and how do you feel it will affect the way you contribute to the world in the future?

This year I worked as an intern in my calculus teacher's Algebra 1 Lab class. It was there that I learned how difficult teaching can be, and what joy there is to be found in effective communication. Going out into the world, I hope to have a better perspective of those around me so I can join with others in achieving great things.

What’s one thing that not many people know about you?

I’m a fairly avid bicyclist. Over the summer, when my homework load is light, I usually spend around 150 to 200 miles per week in the saddle.

What advice would you give to incoming high school students?

Always do your best, and celebrate the truth that no one has to be perfect.

Describe your career aspirations.

I have no solid direction...all I know at this point is that somehow, even if only in small ways, I want to make the world a better place.

If you could travel anywhere, where would you go?

I would absolutely love to bike from Puget Sound down to San Diego and see the entire West Coast. The pacific states are amazingly beautiful, and spending a few weeks amongst the redwoods, the deserts, the mountains, and the beaches would be a dream come true.
