Morotti Campi Xyris 2008

The Marotti Campi Estate is located near Morro d’Alba, a village in the Province of Anacona in the Italian region of Marche. The Marotti Campi family has owned land there for over a century, which has been transformed into a wine growing business with over 52 hectares of vines. The family built a modern winery in 1999, which has greatly enhanced their wines.

Marotti Campi Xyris 2008 (pronounced “Syris”) is made from the ancient indigenous grape variety Lacrima di Morro d’Alba, which has aromatic qualities and is cultivated in a very restricted area. This wine is made by partially fermenting the grape juice and stopping the process at 6.5 percent alcohol. The result is a sparkling, sweet red wine in which characteristics of the grape variety show through and is pleasantly sweet and balanced. It shows light raspberries, has a clean finish and is perfect to serve with dessert, brunch, or even as an aperitif. Even if you shy away from sweet wines, this is one to try. Its uniqueness will surprise you.
