Describe your business. Did you find it, or did it find you?

Plumbing Unique is a luxury kitchen and bath showroom; we sell fixtures such as sinks, faucets and toilets. We also sell luxury items such as whirlpool bathtubs, steam showers, custom shower doors, and we recently added appliances. My father, Jerry Kain, ran a successful plumbing business for over 30 years. My mother, Judy, opened Plumbing Unique in 1987 because there was a lack of plumbing outfits in Sacramento with unique fixtures. I joined the sales team in 1999, and have been running the day-to-day operations ever since. I guess the business found me; I grew up in the industry and feel like it is what I was meant to do. Family businesses tend to have that effect; you either embrace it or do something that would be considered the polar opposite.

How are you involved with both the community and your customer?

Plumbing Unique has been involved with numerous “Street of Dreams” home tours. We also work with the various accredited colleges in the area by giving a “Plumbing 101” field trip to our showroom each year to area design students.

Why is your staff the best in the business?

Our staff has 35 combined years of experience in the industry; we have the most knowledgeable sales staff in Sacramento. We have great personal service with most of our clients coming by referral, which says a lot about our customer satisfaction.

What life accomplishments are you most proud of?

My 16-month-old baby girl – she reminds me every day of why I work so hard, it’s all for her. I think that’s what my parents wanted when they opened Plumbing Unique – to make a better life for their family.

Who is your role model in business or in life, and why?

My mother, Judy Kain – she’s a hard-nosed businesswoman who seems to always have a grounded perspective on life. I find that it’s not as easy to run a business as it looks, and it takes a lot of sacrifice.

What’s your hidden talent?

Multitasking – I’m a mom, remember!

If you could meet someone living or dead, who would it be and why?

My grandfather – he passed away before I was born.

What’s your favorite local business other than your own?

Lockdown Brew, and of course, I Love Teriyaki & Sushi!

If you could be any other profession what would it be?

A veterinarian.

And finally, customer service is…?

The key to our success!
