Very rarely does one have the opportunity to meet a person who is as genuinely passionate about her job as is Gail McGrath, a City of Roseville Librarian Specialist for the past 18 years. From the ease with which she shares information, it is apparent that she not only loves what she does but excels in it as well. McGrath’s love for books began as a child and has only grown since. “My sister recently reminded me of how I used to read to my two siblings when I was only four or five. So, despite my lack of experience when I looked in the paper and saw the job available at the downtown library in Roseville in 1990, I just had to apply,” says McGrath.

As one who endorses the concept of lifelong learning, McGrath continues her education with library classes and currently belongs to a local Toastmasters club in order to “refine my speaking skills for when I make presentations on behalf of the library.”

McGrath believes in making the library a “beyond-the-book experience.” She feels that the Roseville library system offers much more than the typical resources. “My feeling is that our staff is the absolute best resource our libraries offer. We go out of our way to work with people and offer amazing customer service. We want people to love being here and keep coming back,” says McGrath.
