My husband and I made reservations at Suede Blue (formerly Carver’s Steakhouse, in Roseville) to satisfy our seafood cravings. We were led to a plush booth near the central fireplace in the dining room. Water and fresh hot bread met us as we were seated in the modern lodge-style dining room. We ordered from the wine list and savored the bread as we perused the menu.

From our table we observed a large party at a banquet table enjoying sizzling platters of meat and fresh seafood. In an effort to aid my decision-making process, I peeked across the dining room to catch a glimpse of more delicious entrees. For our appetizer, we chose the Ahi Poke Cones. Crunchy wonton-style wrappers stuffed with ahi tuna, soy, ginger and honey made for a fresh start to our meal. We also shared a Caesar salad that proved plentiful for us both. When it came time to order our entrees, our server looked to me and I exclaimed, “I’ll have what she had,” pointing toward another table at a beautifully plated lobster and steak dish – the Suede Blue, a 4-ounce lobster tail and two filet medallions topped with blue cheese and mushroom sauce, and a side of sautéed spinach. My husband chose the Prime Steak Au Poiuve, a 14-ounce New York strip rolled in peppercorns and finished tableside sizzling with a brandy peppercorn sauce. Juicy and tender, he placed this steak at the top of his list.

Suede Blue boasts “fine meats, fresh fish, casual style.” They may want to add “decadent desserts” to that tagline. I decided on the Suede Blue Lava Cake, and while our server warned me that preparation was about 20 minutes, I soon realized that it was well worth it! A crispy firm outside, gooey inside chocolate cake arrived on a chilled plate with ice cream. Once my fork pierced the cake, a flood of chocolate and melted Andes mints poured out – it was dessert at its finest, truly divine!

The most enjoyable aspect of our dining experience was that we did not feel rushed but were also never left waiting. The evening was intimate, and delicious – the perfect date night, or night out with friends.
