Holiday Performance Round-up

The holidays bring out our special memories of celebrating the season with family and friends in thousands of different ways.

Although we are busy with parties, shopping and decorating…one way to make this year special is to venture out and see a live performance at one of the many local venues.

Folsom

  • Starting November 20 through December 22, Stage Nine Theater features Holiday in the Hills, a seasonal musical celebration for the whole family. Enjoy A Laura Ingalls Wilder Christmas December 5-30. For times and details, visit stageninefolsom.com.
  • Folsom High School presents their Winter Jazz Concert December 8, at 7 p.m.; free of charge at the Jill Solberg Theatre at Folsom High School. folsommusic.org
  • Catch Pamela Hayes Classical Ballet Theater’s annual production of The Nutcracker, December 11-13 at the Jill Solberg Theater at Folsom High School in Folsom. danceballet.com

  • Enjoy a Holiday Spectacular at the Folsom Lake Symphony Orchestra. December 20-21, enjoy Bach to Vivaldi during two spectacular performances at the Jill Solberg Theater at Folsom High School in Folsom. folsomsymphony.com

El Dorado Hills

  • On November 20, at 7 p.m., professional lyric soprano Courtney Bowles and professional pianist Steven Johnson, will perform in concert at Holy Trinity Church. For more information, call 530-677-3234.
  • The El Dorado Hills Town Center Annual Tree Lighting will take place on November 28, at Theater Plaza, and each Saturday before Christmas will feature Santa, Victorian carolers and more. eldoradohillstowncenter.com
  • On December 19, at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m., the students of Center Stage Dance Academy, ages three to adult, will offer The Gift to everyone this year. The performance is a collection of holiday inspired dance. Proceeds from the performances will benefit the Shriners Hospital for Children. csda.info

Sacramento & Surrounding

  • The California State Railroad Museum has two great events to mark the season. Train Time for Santa highlights model trains this November 27-29. Ride The Polar Express as Chris Van Allsburg’s tale is brought to life in Old Sacramento. csrmf.org
  • Recapture the spirit of Christmas with downtown Grass Valley’s Cornish Christmas Celebration. Carolers, cloggers, and bell ringers will spread cheer on November 27, and December 4, 11, and 18, from 6-9 p.m. For more information, call 530-272-8315.
  • Get into the holiday spirit at Fairytale Town’s Winter Wonderland! On their anniversary year they will literally illuminate the season by lighting sets for a series of evenings. The park will be brimming with holiday decor, activities and, of course, the Clauses. fairytaletown.org
  • Capital Christian Center presents a Merry Olde Christmas for their 53rd Annual Singing Christmas Tree, the first two weekends of December. See 110 choir members singing in a tree surrounded by 45,000 lights! ccconline.cc

  • Sacramento Ballet’s The Nutcracker will take the stage on opening night, December 11, to mark the 500th performance with the Sacramento Philharmonic. sacballet.org
