Have you ever gone to a “Concert in the Park” in Folsom?

Have you spent a weekend at the Folsom Renaissance Faire? Or taken an art class through the Folsom Department of Parks and Recreation? If so, you have likely come into contact with the Folsom Community and Cultural Services Division Manager, Sandy Hilton. Hilton is an artist and her passion in bringing these services to the Folsom community shines through in the smile on her face and the excitement with which she discusses everything that her department is doing. “We serve everybody in the community from kids to seniors. We offer youth day camps, art classes and lots of community activities throughout the year.”

Despite the budget cuts that her department faced this year, they have pressed on relentlessly to improve and expand their offerings to the community. “We are down a couple of people, but we do what we can with what we have,” Hilton says. In 2009, that includes the opening of a new Hinkle Creek Nature Center as well as the many classes and activities that they will offer.

It is evident that Hilton has a lot on her plate…and she loves it! What’s her advice for the rest of us? “Live life! There is always something exciting and interesting to try or a new thing to do, just go do it!”
