As a dedicated theatre arts instructor of 10 years, Paul Tomei is just as excited and passionate about teaching today as he was the day that he started.

Over the summer, Tomei was instrumental in an intermural production of Pippin, allowing students to meet and work with drama students from across the district, both from private and public schools.

Tomei’s direction and his students’ performances have even recently been spotlighted by SARTA (Sacramento Area Regional Theatre Alliance), which gave El Dorado High School 19 Elly award nominations for the 2008-09 season. As well, a student production at El Dorado High School was nominated for the 2010 Fringe Festival in Edinburgh, Scotland, and next summer their sights are set on going!

"We need to come up with $6,000 per student and adult, which is a pretty big task,” says Tomei. In addition to their individual fundraising endeavors, the group is hoping to procure some corporate sponsorships to aid in making the $180,000 goal, “We are doing fundraisers and we are really trying to get some business sponsors too,” says Tomei. We wish Tomei and his students all the best, and look forward to the Elly award winners on September 20. To help with fundraising, call El Dorado High School at 530-622-3634.
