Kathy Franklin has a real desire to serve others, specifically those under age 18.

She aspires to be a defense attorney assisting area youth. A recent graduate of Sacramento’s McGeorge School of Law, she is truly passionate about kids and their success in life. “Rehabilitation has to begin when they are still kids,” she states. “Prison is not the place for them – they just learn how to be better criminals there.”

Not only does Franklin care about the welfare of young ones who have made bad choices, she also serves those in the community with few choices. Franklin has volunteered much of her time to Project Birthday, a charitable organization providing birthday parties to kids at local shelters. These are children who’ve experienced pretty bleak childhoods; but Project Birthday and Franklin are able to deliver some brightness into their lives. In addition to Project Birthday, she is an avid volunteer with Hands on Sacramento, Placer County CASA, Maidu Library where she reads to children with Mother Goose, and the Roseville REC Center. Franklin was recently selected as a finalist in Glamour magazine’s “Best of You” competition, which honors women for using their best quality to make a difference in the world. Franklin was the only finalist west of the Mississippi! While she might not have taken home the grand prize, Kathy Franklin has much to be proud of.
