Describe your business. Did you find it, or did it find you?

Following five years of military service with the 101st Airborne Division, I returned to California and visited a relative who owned a State Farm Insurance Agency in Tracy. The profession intrigued me, so I applied to become a State Farm agent in Cameron Park and was appointed on February 5, 1979.

What was your first job, and what did you learn from the experience?

I worked my way through college at a Chevron gas station in Davis. I learned the value of good, personalized service and that payday was on Friday!

How are you involved with both the community and your customer?

I am an active member (and past-President) of the Shingle Springs-Cameron Park Chamber of Commerce, an insurance advisor to the El Dorado County Fire Safe Council and the affiliate director of the El Dorado County Association of Realtors.

Why is your staff the best in the business?

Each member of my staff is fully licensed by the State of California, exceptionally trained and experienced. Natalie Chandler has been a staff member for over 7 years; Susan Douglas for 10 years; and Stacey Marshall for 22 years.

What life accomplishments are you most proud of?

Meeting and marrying my wife, Susan; getting a BS in Mathematics from U.C. Davis; becoming an Airborne Ranger; being President of the Shingle Springs-Cameron Park Chamber of Commerce; obtaining my Chartered Life Underwriter, Chartered Financial Consultant and Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter professional designations.

Where do you go when the going gets tough?

To my “happy place” (acreage that I own in Ione) and play “rancher” for the day.

Where do you and your family go locally to have fun?

Apple Hill, especially in the fall.

If you could meet someone living or dead, who would it be and why?

My dad – who passed away three years ago – to take him fishing one more time!

And finally, customer service is…?

Everything!
