The Counter at the Fountains is a fresh take on made-to-order.

My husband and I recently had the most enjoyable dining experience at The Counter. A cheerful server explained to us the process of ordering. At each table are pencils, burger checklists and menus. We chose our meat, mine turkey, and his beef, and then proceeded to scan our topping options. Among the choices were 10 different cheeses, and the 18 veggie options made it difficult to choose just four that are included free. Choosing a sauce to complement my turkey, Gruyere burger with avocado, tomatoes and pickles was difficult, but I finally decided on the Garlic Aioli sauce, while my husband chose his staple bacon cheddar cheeseburger, but mixed it up by topping it off with the Southwest Caesar sauce. We chose the Honey Wheat Buns, but you can easily go low-carb and have yours served on a bed of lettuce.

Upon mastering the art of burger building, we ordered a few starters, Sweet Potato Fries and Fried Dill Pickle Chips. The heaping dish of sweet potato goodness was more than enough to share, and the pickle chips definitely brought us back to our childhoods in the South.

Our custom-built burgers arrived, piled high with fresh toppings. The turkey burger was the best I’ve had anywhere – hands down! Too bad I couldn’t put it down. I devoured mine rather swiftly while my guest savored each bite of his. He’s an expert on bacon cheeseburgers, as he deems them their own food group, and he says that The Counter is king.

Although we were both stuffed, we could not turn down a milkshake. Their “Milkshake of the Month” on our visit was the Churro Milkshake – vanilla ice cream mixed with chunks of cinnamon sugar churros, topped with whipped cream – super rich and beyond delicious!

If you haven’t been to The Counter, go! The atmosphere is fun, with music and flat screen TVs, they boast a great wine selection, and ample outdoor seating for mild summer nights!
