In the heart of the wine country at the south end of the county, tucked in the intersection of Grizzly Flat Road and E-16 is where you will find the Gold Vine Grill and Wine Bar. Just a quick drive from Placerville, Gold Vine Grill mixes flavors from many types of cuisine and has the perfect regional wine to complement each dish.
After going to their Web site to research their current menu, and with our appetites set, my wife and I took an evening out to try the fare at Gold Vine Grill.
We started the evening with Ginger Shrimp Ravioli, which was filled with an Asian-style shrimp in a hot and sour Thai broth. The heat from the Thai influences kept the flavors lively without being overpowering.
My wife, being the seafood lover she is, couldn’t resist the Seafood Vol au Vent, consisting of shrimp, salmon and scallops in a light crème sauce, served in a puff pastry accompanied by the Gold Vine’s smashed garlic potatoes. I chose to stick to the turf, and opted for the Green Crusted Peppercorn New York Steak and grilled potatoes. The steak was a perfect medium grill, tender and juicy, and the potatoes had wonderful flavor and seasoning. My wife was pleased with the flavors in the seafood dish, but held off on finishing her plate in anticipation of dessert.
We recommend trying the Croissant Bread Pudding to top off your evening. The Crème Anglais sauce and dried cranberries brought just enough sweet to the dish to satisfy anyone’s sweet tooth, while the croissant was light and delicate.
With the plethora of wineries nearby, the quaint atmosphere of Gold Vine Grill is a nice place to find great food on an afternoon of wine tasting in the countryside.
