The earnest but surprisingly unsentimental Mr. Smith Goes to Washington is a love letter to idealism (and idealists), and warns about political corruptness. Stewart is perfection.

Kevin Costner’s best films are those in which he plays the lovable underdog, not unlike Jimmy Stewart. Although Swing Vote is probably the least compelling of this offering, its timeliness and strong performances from an all-star cast make it compulsively viewable, and remind you of why you’ve always crushed on Costner.
