Treasured family recipes bring us comfort every year, but the real magic lies in the memories made while sharing time with family in the kitchen. Style collected recipe cards from the community and prepared a sampling of holiday recipes from local folks, and the memories they’ve made over the years.

"Growing up in the snowy winters of the Sierras, you looked forward to coming inside to a kettle on the wood stove and a cup of something hot to drink. Mom always knew what would melt away the frosty afternoons.

Tom & Jerry Hot Drink Mix
6 eggs (separated)
2-3/4 cups sugar
1/4 tsp. Cream of Tartar
1 tsp. Allspice
Nutmeg for garnish

Beat egg whites until stiff. Slowly add two cups of sugar to the beaten whites. In a separate bowl, beat yokes until thick. Add 3/4 cup sugar, Cream of Tartar and Allspice. Fold into egg whites. To serve: Add approximately two tablespoons of drink mix to 12-ounce mug of hot water, stir until dissolved and sprinkle with nutmeg. For an extra warm-up; rum or brandy can be added to taste. Keep refrigerated.
