San Francisco and Los Angeles may get all the fanfare as destination cities in California, but Sacramento is full of art, culture and history, and it’s nowhere near as far away. Whether you enjoy perusing art galleries, mingling with fellow wine enthusiasts and sipping this year’s vintage, taking the kids to ride holiday-themed trains or just strolling down historic streets and taking in the sights and ambiance – Sacramento won’t disappoint as a weekend destination.

Ho Ho Ho on a Choo-Choo
The California State Railroad Museum is a great place for kids and adults alike to learn about one of the pivotal industries in California and have the opportunity to see old locomotives and rail cars firsthand. To combine the educational experience with a holiday activity, visit the museum on Thanksgiving weekend for a ride through Old Sacramento with Santa Claus, or during December for train rides themed after The Polar Express, featuring a narration of the story, cookies and hot chocolate.
