Foxen 2006 Julia’s Vineyard Pinot Noir

“Pinots pair perfectly.” Say that five times fast and you will not only have a great new tongue twister but also the mantra for the holidays. Holiday meals can be challenging to pair wine with due to the many combinations of flavors. You can have sweet, tart, intensely savory, and gamey flavors all in the same meal. The perfect holiday wine is the much loved and versatile Pinot Noir. Most Pinots having general characteristics of earth, cherries, red berries and spice, which complement the wide variety of sensory experiences in a holiday meal.

In the wee hours of October 2, 2006, after being left on the vines for a little extra time, the Foxen Vineyard’s 2006 Julia’s Vineyard Pinot Noir was born. Hand picked with the grapes left lovingly in whole clusters, Julia’s Vineyard Pinot Noir has to be one of the deepest and most complex Pinots around. The fruit is sourced from one of the coolest vineyards of the Cambria Estate in Santa Barbara County. The soil composition of this west-facing hillside is primarily gravel and rocks, which make the vines work for their juice, the result: intense and concentrated flavors.

Foxen’s 2006 Julia’s Vineyard Pinot Noir is a beautiful light ruby color with deep aromas of smoky cherry and spicy rhubarb. Pair this Pinot with smoked turkey along side clove and cinnamon spiced cranberry sauce, and you’ve got a marriage made in heaven.
