THEN:
Lady Jane
A then unknown Helena Bonham Carter stars in this 1986 film based on the succession-to-the-throne woes and treacherous follies. Lady Jane Grey is used as an unwilling pawn in a scheming minister’s plot to marry her off to Sir Edward Guilford. After a brief attempt at hostility, the couple falls in love until eventual power struggles beyond their control prove to be the downfall of them both.

NOW:
The Other Boleyn Girl
Based on the historical novel by Phillipa Gregory, this film is proof-positive what a royal pain sibling rivalry can be. The film tells the story of the Boleyn sisters: Anne, who became one of Henry VIII’s six wives, and Mary, his mistress. Lusty but slightly predictable, this film will please anyone who loves popcorn retellings of history.
