We hate to say goodbye to such an inspiration, but Ramona “Moni” Gilmore, resident of El Dorado Hills, will be greatly missed as she passed away in her home on April 16. Considered a champion and advocate for senior citizens as well as local Fire and Emergency Services, Moni was a community member that will not be forgotten. Her legacy will live on through her contributions to El Dorado Hills and the greater El Dorado County…

Now, give a round of applause to Swiss exchange student Moritz Von Werdt for winning the 42nd Annual Camellia Cup on Folsom Lake! What’s amazing is that Von Werdt, 17, was the youngest out of 69 participants to finish with the best-combined score! Congratulations!...

And for more lake-related news, the 2008 Notes on Boats event, brought to you by Catalina 22 Fleet 4 along with the Folsom Yacht Club, which are both non-profit organizations, will be taking place on June 14 at New York Cove on Folsom Lake. If you’ve got a sailboat or powerboat, or just want to see something cool, bring some snacks and enjoy this “music on the water day.” The proceeds from the event will go to Fleet 4 and their Big & Little Brothers & Sisters of Sacramento Sail Day event. Check out the full details at catalina22fleet4.org/index.html

And some information worth repeating (and we are) – the Summer 2008 Activity Guide for the Folsom area is out and available! A great resource to squelch your summer time boredom, find it at folsom.ca.us. For those of you in El Dorado Hills, check out the EDH CSD Web site and download the latest Recreation Guide, edhcsd.org/calendar.html These guides are the ultimate answers if getting outside is your goal this summer…

The 35th Annual Eppie’s Great Race is just around the corner on July 19, to take place between Rancho Cordova and Sacramento. The race is looking for volunteers and entrants, so check out thegreatrace.comthegreatrace.com for both volunteer applications and registration forms…

Setting trends is Jeffrey DuFault, owner of DuFault’s Beauty Boutique, who has received prestigious recognition by Pravana Hair Products as one of the top style trendsetters of 2008! DuFault, a designated Artistic Council Member with Pravana, will work alongside six other members and determine upcoming trends and styles at bi-annual meetings held across the U.S. Congratulations Jeffrey!...

Speaking of awards, a total of 26 students from the Folsom Cordova Unified School District were honored at the Youth Inspire! awards ceremony at the Orangevale Community Center on April 9. Being recognized for their efforts in making a difference through community service, their strength of character, and for being inspirational to others, these 26 students are truly exemplary. Though there are too many names to list here, these students are stars of the community. And we can’t forget the eight administrators from the Folsom Cordova Unified School District who received the Silver Star Award, which recognizes various leadership accomplishments. We commend you all…
