Jim Harrington

Coach, Herbert Green Middle School

Jim Harrington was voted the “Favorite Athletic Coach” in Style’s 2008 Readers’ Choice issue. He teaches Physical Education and Life Fitness (Weight Training)  to sixth through eighth graders at Herbert Green Middle School in Placerville. He has been at Herbert Green for 10 years and previously taught for eight years at two other high schools.

Harrington lives in Placerville with his wife Mary, who he will celebrate 17 years of marriage with in July this year.
His daughter Samantha is a freshman at Union Mine High School and his son, Colby, is coincidentally a sixth grader at Herbert Green.

In his spare time, Harrington enjoys participating in anything outdoors, including fishing, hunting, camping and hiking. When asked what his favorite part of being a coach is, Harrington shares that it’s getting to know the kids that’s the most fulfilling for him. He enjoys coaching and developing relationships with his students, and watching them grow into more responsible young adults. “I cannot tell you how many kids I have taught and coached over the years who I am still in contact with today. For me, this is a very rewarding part of the education process,” he says.
