What's Up In April 2024: Notable Happenings in our Local Communities.

The historic Placerville Soda Works building at 594 Main Street is in the process of being converted into an entertainment venue and all-ages arcade. The Prospector currently includes approximately 16 games downstairs, including various pinball machines, Pac-Man, Big Buck Hunter, and a Fast & the Furious driving game; upstairs is a fully equipped rental venue.

Granite Bay's The Village at Treelake is welcoming Yogacreatives (yogacreatives.com) to its list of tenants. The approximately 1,300-square-foot studio at 9719 Village Center Drive will offer traditional yoga, plus fusion classes incorporating barre, yin yoga, hot yoga, power yoga, family yoga, yoga sculpt, and guided meditation—all in a serene, Japanese-inspired ambiance.

Carrara's Pastries, a bakery that serves beautiful, high-quality desserts (pastries, gelato, cakes, and more) made with ingredients imported directly from Italy, opened in the outdoor promenade at the Westfield Galleria at Roseville (1151 Galleria Boulevard, Suite 1165).

Popular Midtown Sacramento restaurant Ryujin Ramen House (ryujinramen.com)—known for their ramen bowls with deeply flavored broths, rice plates, salads, and small plates like gyoza and takoyaki—is opening at 2010 Blue Oaks Boulevard, Suite 100, in Roseville’s Plaza at Blue Oaks. The eatery is scheduled to open this winter.

A handful of new tenants recently joined the Folsom Premium Outlets, including Anita Rochelle Designer Lifestyle (anitarochelle.com), which sells women’s clothing and accessories, in addition to home décor, men's clothing, and gift items; and Golden Kids (goldenkidsclothing.com), a shop with trendy kids’ clothing and toys.

High-quality sushi at an affordable price point with an all-you-can-eat option, plus beer, wine, and sake will be on the menu at Akame Sushi (akameroseville.com). The approximately 6,200-square-foot restaurant is scheduled to open later this month at 1902 Taylor Road in Loomis.

Enjoy Hawaiian food with a Mexican twist at Folsom’s Holaloha Fusion Restaurant & Bar (holalohafolsom.com). In addition to playful specialty cocktails and Sunday brunch, the restaurant (located at 9580 Oak Avenue Parkway, Suite 8) also serves taco flights, loco moco, poke nachos, spam musubi, and a teriyaki burger with grilled pineapple.

Shop for stylish home décor and furniture, both in-person and online, at The Vintage Collection Co. (thevintagecollectionco.com) in Shingle Springs. The newly opened brick and mortar, sited at 4056 Mother Lode Drive, is a premier retailer for Dixie Belle Paint Company and open Wednesday-Sunday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

Folsom’s Palladio is slated to get two new eateries this year. Quick-service dining chain Shake Shack (shakeshack.com)—whose menu features Angus beef burgers, crispy chicken sandwiches, crinkle-cut fries, milkshakes, flat-top hot dogs, and drinks (lemonades, iced teas, beer, and wine)—is opening this fall at 210 Palladio Parkway, Suite 2105. Coming this summer is TRŪ Bowl Superfood Bar (trubowl.com)—a franchise specializing in make-your-own acai bowls, freshly squeezed juices, and smoothies.

Cheers to our local breweries who placed in the 2024 El Dorado County Fair Commercial Brewing Competition, including Solid Ground Brewing (solidgroundbrewing.com), which won double gold for their Braeburn cider and gold for their Gravenstein cider. Gold medals were also awarded to Boring Rose Brewing Co. (boringrose.com) for their Banbury Cross Dark Mild, El Dorado Brewing Co. (eldobrewing.com) for their Trail Blazer Stout and London Tavern Olde Ale, Geartooth Alewerks (geartoothalewerks.com) for their Father Cog, and Camerado Brewing Company (cameradobrewing.com) for their Strato-Full Nelson.

Congrats to the newest members of the Country Radio Hall of Fame: Pat Still and Tom Mailey, morning show hosts on KNCI 105.1 (kncifm.com/shows/pat-tom-cody). The duo was recognized at the Country Radio Seminar in Nashville for their amazing career and commitment to bettering our community over the past 30 years. Listen to them live on weekdays from 5-10 a.m.

Congrats to Del Oro High School students Ava Felahy, Calie Anton, Ramira Mittaland, and Carson Zerwas; and Confluence High School West students Azy Curley and Charlie Farquhar for receiving awards to further their education from Soroptimist International of Loomis Basin (soroptimistloomis.com). In total, the nonprofit awarded $13,000 in education awards—to teachers, students, and working moms—so women and girls can have the resources to live their dreams.

NAMI El Dorado County offers a free, in-person, peer-led Family Support Group for adults of loved ones struggling with mental illness. From 6-7:30 p.m. every first Tuesday of the month in Placerville, attendees can gain insight from others facing similar experiences. To extend his study in advanced placement classes to his love of golf, Oak Ridge High School student Zachary Nicholson created a free, easy opportunity for golfers to be part of the 27th annual Great Backyard Bird Count—an international program that collects observations to help scientists better understand global bird populations before one of their annual migrations. Nicholson invited golfers of any age to spend 15 minutes between February 16-19 noting birds on their course of choice and log them at birdcount.org.

Action Camera (actioncamera.com)—which offers photo equipment (both used and new), rentals, advice, and education—is relocating their Roseville store (1000 Sunrise Avenue, Suite 10B) to a larger, natural light-filled space in Rocklin (4415 Granite Drive). The business is celebrating the move with a grand reopening event from April 26-28; festivities include a pet photography workshop (courtesy of Canon) and adoptable pets (April 27), plus tons of other free happenings.
