Rove Boba Tea

4370 Golden Center Drive, Suite C, Placerville, 530-306-8609, @rove.boba.tea

Arriving in the U.S. from Taiwan in the '90s, boba tea (sometimes called bubble tea) is currently all the craze. And Rove Boba Tea—a fun, flavorful addition to the foothills—is the perfect place to jump on board the bandwagon. When you walk in, you’re greeted by an esthetically pleasing environment: a wall of pink roses, velvet lounge chairs, and iridescent wall décor. The menu is extensive, including milk teas, refresher teas, and slushies—all available with a variety of boba and other enticing toppings—plus hot drinks, bánh mi sandwiches, salads, and fried foods aplenty (shrimp tempura, onion rings, mozzarella sticks, and more). I opted for a Rose-Lychee Milk Tea and Honey Milk Tea (both with boba, of course!) and, impulsively, an order of house-made Egg Rolls with sweet chili sauce on the side. While waiting, I admired the bright, playful interior, imagining all the great photo ops—but before I could snap a pic, my order was ready. Both teas were flavored perfectly, not overwhelming, and incredibly refreshing. Pro tip: I ordered my drinks with 50% sweetness (you can choose between no sweetness, 25%, 50%, 75%, or 100%), and it was plenty sweet. The fresh-out-of-the-fryer egg rolls boasted a crispy crunch and were jam-packed with perfectly seasoned pork and veggies. Unfortunately, everything was gone in the blink of an eye; fortunately, I’ll be back again (and again!) to feed my newly acquired need for boba.
